In contrast to “The dialogues” of Plato, where, often, on behalf its friend and teacher Socrates, Plato voices his own views, “Apology” can be considered as the only really historical composition of Plato: about this testifies, in particular, his proximity to the recollections of Xenophon, which in no way claim to the philosophical originality and it is why more reliable, from the point of view of history. As is known, in 399 B.C. Socrates was prosecute by Athenian Democrats in the seduction of youth and the negation of gods. In spite of courageous, completed of merit and conviction in his rightness protection, philosopher was condemned to death and without the fluctuations he drank cup with the poison, after rejecting the proposal of friends to arrange about his flight from the prison. “Apology” (complete name - “Apology of Socrates”) is the defense speech of Socrates in the law court, there are many years later recalled> by Plato on the memory (probably, on the basis of its own records). Unusually living and expressive text of Plato bears for itself the imprint of the personality of Socrates - ideal philosopher, misunderstooded and rejected by contemporaries, prepared to the end to defend his persuasions. “Apology” contains a enormous quantity of allusions, intelligible only to that, who is familiar with the Athenian reality of that time; there is mentioned the set of the statesmen of Athens (by larger part, from the hostile camp to Socrates), sophists, in the belonging to them, without any basis, they charged philosopher, and also people, whose names, apparently, much told to contemporaries, but they proved of themselves to be preserved for the history only because of the recollections of Plato. In his speech Socrates refers also to not preserved comedy of one of his main enemies - dramatist Aristofan. Thus, deep-rooted “Apology” in the historical context serves as additional evidence of its authenticity.
