The Third-largest paradise
Have you been to this third-lagest American paradise? Pack and Watch how wonderful it is to witness not only the architectural beauty of Chicago but its` cultural peculiar features. Let`s enjoy the trip together. Imagine that the weather is not rainy or foggy if it is really vice versa sunny and marvelous to sightsee and learn how this ancient place turned into the modern one! It is exciting to go on a tour right now, isn`t it?

Some historical facts

The history of Chicago begins with the discovery of its` water routes between the Mississippi River and Lake Michigan in 1673 when Father Marquette and Louis Joiet were sent there by the King of France. At that time Chicago was called by Indians
“Chicagou” what meant from their language “ the stink of garlic and wild onions”.
Yes, it is not pleasant for such a place as it became now but history is history.
The “Swamp” was replaced in time by the city which was full of merchants trading prosperously by means of water trading chains of Great Lakes.
During the Civil War its` citizens fought under Abraham Lincoln in the Union Army.
And by 1890 the city had been grown larger because of an enormous stream of immigrants from various countries. Perhaps they sought for this very American dream that is popular now or even helped to create it working hard in Chicago`s teaming factories and stench-filled stockyards. Among them were Germans, Poles, Croats, Slavs, Jews, Italians, Blacks, Greeks, Asians, Latins. They were torn from their common societies and put in this country to develop multi –national community. That is why there are many different in culture neighborhoods in Chicago, for instance, the Ukrainian Village. In 1871 the Great Chicago Fire burnt the most part of the city to the ground. Almost nothing was left what actually characterizes this misfortune as the Greatest Catastrophe for Chicagoans at that time.

The restoration
The modern city is very attracting for tourists and it is not by chance. As so many architects contributed to its` restoration making their genius work for the welfare of simultaneously the same and mostly different newborn Chicago. Now we will give our tribute to what they have done one more time naming them here: Louis Henry Sullivan, John Wellborn Root and William Holabird. When this period of licking wounds was over, a new life filled newly built avenues and other cultural centers which are visited by the majority of people from all over the world yearly- monthly-weekly-daily-hourly and secondly…

Up to the Sky
Later architects began to use steel frame constructions that now are regarded as skyscraper forerunners and finally built the tallest and most grandiose skyscraper – the Sears Tower, then a little bit smaller- Standard Oil Building and John Hancock Center.
When you go along any avenue and view the surrounding dynamics of the city do not forget to have a look up at the sky which will be framed by the picks of breathtaking skyscrapers!
